£5 million for the island communities of Scotland

Funds to invest in local infrastructure and fight increasing costs.

John Swinney, First Minister, will announce a package of £5 million for the island communities in Scotland while visiting the Shetland. 

The funding is intended to support the island communities to help combat local issues and create more opportunities for a sustainable future. The First Minister’s four goals of ending child poverty, boosting the Scottish economy, putting money into infrastructure and green energy, and enhancing public services are all represented in this funding.

The Islands Cost Crisis Emergency Fund’s 2024–25 round has a £1 million budget announced.


An announcement of £3 million has been made for the Islands Programme’s 2024–25 cycle.


A new programme worth £1 million has been announced with the intention of encouraging greater community and island authority involvement in the Scottish Government’s Carbon Neutral Islands project.
