Our first Rural SEN session of 2025 was held on 22nd January, with a focus on tackling rising energy costs in rural communities.
The first session of the Rural SEN was conducted by Emily Berry from Utility Aid, the UK’s largest energy consultant for the not-for-profit sector. She explained who Utility Aid are, what they do, and shared some simple tips to cut energy costs, use energy more efficiently, and plan for a sustainable future.
Ryan Felber from Business Energy Scotland then came on to discuss fuel poverty. According to Scottish legislation, fuel poverty is when more than 10% of net income is needed to cover reasonable fuel costs. He highlighted that the main challenges organisations face in managing energy costs are a lack of time, technical skills, funding, or other resources to improve energy efficiency.
