RuralSEN 20 August: The Role of Social Enterprises in Tackling Child Poverty
Our third Rural SEN session of 2025 focused on how social enterprises can help address child poverty in rural Scotland.
Speakers from The Poverty Alliance and Inspiralba shared insights on the realities of rural poverty, highlighting the “poverty premium” and “rural premium” that make life more costly for families. Key issues discussed included fuel and housing challenges, transport barriers, insecure jobs, and lack of childcare.
The session underlined the importance of collective action, stronger networks, and inclusive business models to support families and build fairer, more resilient rural communities.
