Community Energy for All – The Story of Building an Energy Community in Czechia’s Ústí nad Labem Region

This new publication by Re-set shares the story of establishing SK Žárovka (The Light Bulb) in Děčín. It is one of the first energy communities in the Czech Republic to actively involve groups often left out of energy projects, such as tenants, women, young families, and those at risk of energy poverty.

The guide combines practical experience from the field with legal analysis and results from focus groups to show how community energy can be made fair and inclusive.

What is in the publication:

  • Introduction to Community Energy: A clear look at the legal framework and how electricity sharing works.

  • How to Start: Practical instructions on organising a community and choosing an energy allocation model.

  • Overcoming Hurdles: A breakdown of financial, legal, and technical obstacles, with recommendations on how to solve them.

  • The Děčín Experience: A step-by-step account of building an energy community from the ground up in the Ústí nad Labem region.

  • Social Insights: Findings from focus groups with people experiencing energy poverty.

By sharing these lessons, Re-set provides a roadmap for future initiatives to make clean energy accessible to everyone.
